Kaiserslautern's 1997/98 Bundesliga title is arguably the greatest statistical anomaly in the history of German football: a newly promoted club, without a big-league budget, winning the league in its first season back in the top flight. Otto Rehhagel on the bench, Ciriaco Sforza, Olaf Marschall, Ratinho —a team that wasn't supposed to win anything and won everything. That fourth championship star that appears on this scarf alongside those of 1951, 1953, and 1991 is the one that carries the most weight, the one that turns the Betzenberg —the stadium perched on the hill, with its atmosphere of an impregnable fortress— into a place of worship for those who remember that season. "Die Roten Teufel" embroidered next to the complete list of honors and the illustration of the red devil at the ends: a scarf that is, above all, a notarized record of what this club has been.

Vintage 1. FC Kaiserslautern football scarf from the early 2000s, in acrylic fabric. Red with the inscription "Die Roten Teufel," four championship stars (1951, 1953, 1991, 1998), the club's list of honors, and an illustration of the red devil at the ends.
