The 1991/92 and 1992/93 seasons place this shirt on the threshold of the most glorious era of modern Ajax: Louis van Gaal's team, which was building the squad that would conquer the UEFA Champions League in 1995 in Vienna by defeating AC Milan. During that biennium, Ajax already boasted players from the Dutch golden generation—Frank Rijkaard, Dennis Bergkamp, Marc Overmars—as well as the first years of a youth academy that would soon produce Patrick Kluivert, Edgar Davids, and Clarence Seedorf. Umbro outfitted Ajax during that era with a classic kit: red and white in symmetrical vertical stripes, without decorative excesses, featuring the characteristic austerity of early nineties Dutch design. An Umbro Ajax shirt from that cycle in 9/10 condition is a Premium Selection piece, valued both for its age and for belonging to the period immediately preceding the greatest Ajax in history.
