Red is not the color of Beşiktaş—that would be the black and white of the Kartal, the black eagle that gives its name to the loudest fans in Turkish football—and that is precisely why the Istanbul club’s third kits always have that sought-after touch of rarity that makes them more interesting collector’s items than the home jersey. The 2001/02 season coincides with one of the most competitive eras in Turkish football, just after Galatasaray had won the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, with Beşiktaş fighting to regain its prominence in the Süper Lig.
