The 2012/13 season marked the 125th anniversary of Celtic Football Club, founded in 1888 by the Marist Brother Walfrid in Glasgow's East End with the original goal of raising funds to feed the city's poor Irish immigrants. To commemorate that milestone, Nike designed a special kit featuring the 125th anniversary commemorative crest—replacing the usual badge—and with the sponsor Tennent's relocated below the crest instead of occupying the chest prominently, an aesthetic decision that gave the shirt a cleaner and more ceremonial appearance, in line with the commemorative nature of the edition. Tennent's, the Glasgow brewer founded in 1740, was a historic sponsor of Celtic during that period.
